Economic Activity Declines in Seventeen States in July
The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia regional economic activity indexes declined in July from June in seventeen states in all regions of the county but primarily in the South and West. Nonetheless, the economic activity index increased marginally in all regions except the Great Lakes
Stronger business investment should offset the impact of slower U.S. growth
Heading into the second half of 2011, there is solid evidence that business non-residential construction is making a significant contribution to economic growth in Canada despite the fact that the federal government’s infrastructure stimulus program expired on March 31, 2011.
Construction Spending Outlook Worsens
Reed Construction Data has reduced the construction spending forecast for 2011-13 based on a series of negative developments in the last few weeks.
Heavy Construction Spending Remains Stalled
The forecast downgrade is very small for the heavy construction sector because much of the funding for 2011-12 work has already been committed from trust funds, bond issues and long-term private facility projects for site development, utilities and power generation.
Nonresidential Building Construction Spending Recovery Slows
Nonresidential construction spending increased 2% since January; the recovery was clearly underway for “for lease” private projects with spending up for five consecutive months although spending for institutional projects has fallen below the January level.
