Construction Spending Inches Forward in September
Total construction spending edged up 0.2% in September after rising 1.6% in August, the fifth monthly increase in the last six months, according to data from the U.S.
Heavy Engineering (Non-Building) Construction Flat in September
Heavy engineering (non-building) construction spending held steady in September following a 2.9% advance in August. Year-to-date, heavy engineering spending was also unchanged compared to the same period last year. The heavy construction sector is forecast to hold up well as the outlook for the economy improves, encouraging private sector investment.
Nonresidential Building Construction Spending Slips in September
Nonresidential building construction spending fell a slight 0.1% in September following a 1.3% increase in August. On a year-to-date basis, the measure was down 6.7% compared to the same period a year ago.
